Paul Cullen (1949-2017)
Paul was a witty and quirky visual artist. He was also a senior lecturer at AUT University, Auckland and obtained his Doctorate in 2007. He was a constantly intelligent presence in the contemporary art scene for over 40 years.
"Adapting my drawings to the format of rugs was a challenging and exciting experience. A drawing, generally, is viewed from one angle and is placed on a wall. As rugs my drawings would be seen from any direction, thus my selection and changes took this requirement as a guiding principle."
