When the Lights Go On Again
Avis Higgs
V-E day May 1945
On this day, while Avis waited for transport to join the celebrating crowds at Sydney's waterfront, she sketched 'When the Lights Go On Again,' also the title of Vera Lynn’s popular song at the time. Avis included a world globe in her design, along with details of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Empire State Building with lights on again.
Avis Higgs designed this 1945 fabric to remind people that happier times lay ahead, with the conclusion of the Second World War.
